Ruthenium

London Chemicals & Resources Limited (LCR) is proud to represent RS Bruce in relation to the recovery of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) from Nitric Acid plants and Ruthenium.

Ruthenium is a versatile metal that has various applications in the electronics, chemical, and automotive industries. With its unique physical and chemical properties, ruthenium is a valuable element that offers a range of benefits to different sectors.

Our ruthenium products are used in the following applications:

  1. Electronics Industry: Ruthenium is used in the production of hard disk drives, semiconductors, and other electronic devices. Our ruthenium products are designed to improve the electrical conductivity and resistance of these devices, ensuring they perform optimally.
  2. Chemical Industry: Ruthenium is an excellent catalyst for chemical reactions, and our ruthenium products are used to facilitate these reactions. Our ruthenium catalysts are designed to reduce reaction times, increase yields, and improve the selectivity of chemical reactions.
  3. Automotive Industry: Ruthenium is used in the production of catalytic converters that reduce harmful emissions from vehicles. Our ruthenium products are designed to enhance the performance of these converters, ensuring they reduce emissions effectively.

RS Bruce is the world’s leading specialist in recovering PGMs from Nitric Acid and other chemical plants. With over 35 years of experience and more than 700 successful clean downs completed, RS Bruce has to date recovered over USD2 bn worth of Palladium, Platinum and Rhodium from clients’ plants.

RS Bruce offers both non-destructive and destructive clean downs of Nitric Acid plants. Non-destructive clean downs of operational plants use mild chemicals and non-aggressive techniques, specially developed by RS Bruce and extensively tested to ensure safe yet optimal recovery of lost PGMs. Non-destructive clean downs usually take place during scheduled maintenance shutdowns in order to avoid disruption to clients’ production schedules. Clients benefit from an RS Bruce clean down not only by recovering lost PGMs but also through improved heat exchange efficiency.

Destructive cleaning of decommissioned plant components is also offered. This can recover 100% of PGMs retained within those components.

RS Bruce uses a wide range of technologies and equipment to recover metals including Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, Iridium, Ruthenium, Gold, Silver, Molybdenum, Cobalt, Titanium, Nickel and Copper from a variety of industrial residues such as Process Residues, Sludges, Filter Cakes, Filter Media, Activated Carbon, Diatomaceous Earth & Ion Exchange Resins, Filter Cartridges and Papers, Cathode Plates, Gauzes, PGM Coated Mesh, Shot Blast Wastes and Overspray from PGM Coating, Turbine Blades and Vanes, PPE & Workwear, Lab Smalls, Samples, Filter Papers, Filter Media, Plant and Equipment, Sweepings and Residues from Process Labs, Buildings, Concrete Floors, Wall Coverings and Roof Spaces, Furnace Slag, Refinery Slag, Flue Dust and Sweepings, Dentistry and Medical Wastes, Jewellery Scrap, Floor Sweeps, Electronic Equipment and Specialist Components and Connectors, Raschig rings and Support Structures from Nitric Acid Plants.

London Chemicals & Resources Limited (LCR) is proud to announce its partnership with AGR S.A. in a new spent catalyst processing facility AGR Catalyst Recovery (AGR-CR). This new facility already has licenses and permits in place and is located in Logrezana, between Aviles and Gijón in the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain, the administrative and commercial centre for the region.

Building and construction work commenced in 2018 and the company was officially launched in 2020. We utilise the latest technology for processing spent catalysts, originating mainly from the European oil and gas industry, which are finally recycled to produce chemicals and ferro-alloys and returned to the industry.

London Chemicals & Resources Ltd is proud that AGR-CR will create many new jobs for the local community over the coming years.

At full capacity, the facility will be roasting many thousands of tonnes per year of spent catalyst arising from catalytic processes such as hydrodesulfurization (HDS), hydrodemetallization (HDM) and hydrocracking (HC). These spent catalysts include VMoNi, NiMo, CoMo and NiW.
